When we talk about EddyAI™ accuracy, we mean how correctly it reads data off a transcript. This article explains what accuracy covers, what it doesn't, and what to do if a value looks wrong. It applies to both high school and college transcripts.

What accuracy measures
Accuracy means extraction accuracy: whether EddyAI™ correctly reads and captures a value exactly as it appears on the transcript. This includes:
- Course details: Course names, grades, and credits as printed.
- Terms and grade levels: The term and grade-level labels on each course.
- Identifiers and degrees: Student and school identifiers, and degrees listed on college transcripts.
Note
Accuracy is measured field by field, not transcript by transcript. A transcript with 40 correct fields and one incorrect field is still highly accurate overall, even though the one error is usually the first thing you notice.
What accuracy does not cover
After extraction, EddyAI™ applies your institution's rules to produce calculated values. These depend on how your rules are configured, not on how well the transcript was read. Accuracy does not mean:
- Every recalculated GPA is correct. Every institution calculates GPA differently. If a rule is set up incorrectly, the GPA will be wrong even when every grade was read correctly.
- Every course count is correct. Counts depend on choices like how to treat zero-credit, in-progress, or half-year courses.
- No transcript needs review. A high accuracy rate does not mean every transcript can skip review.
- Every transcript is equally accurate. We've seen many transcript formats, but not all of them. Most transcripts will have high accuracy, but some can have low accuracy because of a new format or visual issues such as poor scan quality.
Warning
Review GPA and course-count results carefully during testing. These values come from your configured rules, so a rule issue can affect many transcripts at once.
Extracted vs. calculated values
Use this table to tell which kind of value you're looking at:
| Extracted | Calculated | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | Course name, grade, credits, term, grade level, normalized (Carnegie) credits | Recalculated GPA, course counts, rigor |
| Based on | What's printed on the transcript | Your institution's rules, as configured during implementation |
| Can I fix it myself? | Yes. Edit the field on the review screen. | No. The rule needs to be updated. Contact support. |
| Covered by accuracy? | Yes | No |
When results may be less accurate
Below are some common situations where results can vary. This is not a complete list. Transcripts vary widely, and new formats or layouts can affect accuracy in ways we haven't seen yet.
- High school trimester, quarter, and dual-credit formats: EddyAI™ can read these, but the review screen can't yet fully display or calculate on them.
- Two credit values per course: The review screen can't yet handle both values.
- Complex or custom GPA and course-count rules: The more custom the rule, the more important it is to review results during testing.
- Fields marked beta: These are still being tested and may be less accurate.
College transcripts
College transcripts also have some known limits, including:
- Grade scales: Only the standard 4.0 scale is supported.
- Credentials: Credentials not listed as degrees are not captured, and they are not shown separately from courses.
- Academic renewal: It can't be reliably detected from the transcript alone, so these transcripts need manual review.

If you see something that isn't listed here, let us know. Your examples help us improve EddyAI™ and keep this article current.
What to do if a value looks wrong
Follow these steps when a value on the review screen doesn't match what you expect:
1 |
Check whether the value is extracted or calculated, using the table above. |
2 |
Correct the field on the review screen if the value is extracted. |
3 |
Contact support if the value is calculated. Include the transcript, the value you see, and the value you expected. |

Tip
If several transcripts show the same wrong calculated value, mention that in your request. It usually points to a single rule we can fix for all of them.

Submit a request to our support team, and we'll help you figure out whether you're seeing an extraction issue or a rule issue.
