What Is Navigate?
Navigate is a student-facing transfer credit tool that lives directly on your institution's website. It lets prospective transfer students look up their current or previous school, see exactly how their coursework maps to your courses, and understand their credit picture — all before they ever contact your office.
Think of it as a self-service transfer credit preview for students, powered by your institution's own equivalency rules. It's designed to answer the number-one question transfer students have: "How will my credits transfer?"
Why Does Navigate Matter for Your Institution?
Transfer enrollment is competitive, and students often choose the institution that gives them the clearest, fastest answers about their credits. Navigate helps your institution stand out by putting that information right on your website — available 24/7, no appointment or email required.
Here's what Navigate does for your team:
- Converts website visitors into inquiries: Students browsing your transfer admissions page can immediately engage with Navigate to explore their credit options. When they provide their email to get results, your admissions team gains a high-intent lead.
- Reduces manual credit inquiries: Instead of fielding individual "Will my credits transfer?" emails and phone calls, Navigate gives students instant answers based on your real equivalency data. This frees up your registrar and admissions staff for higher-value work.
- Provides consistent, accurate information: Because Navigate pulls from your centralized equivalency rules (managed in EddyDB), every student sees the same up-to-date information. No more inconsistencies between what different staff members tell different students.
What Does the Student Experience Look Like?
It's helpful to understand what your prospective students will see. Here's how Navigate works from their perspective:
1 |
Visit the page on your website where Navigate is embedded (typically your transfer admissions or transfer credit page). |
2 |
Search for their current or previous institution from a list of sending schools. |
3 |
View the course equivalencies for that school — showing which courses transfer, how they're applied, and the credit values. |
4 |
Upload a transcript (if enabled) for a personalized evaluation of their specific courses. |
5 |
Review a clear summary of their transferable credits and provide their email to receive results. |
The entire experience is branded with your institution's logo, colors, and styling, so it feels like a natural part of your website — not a third-party tool.
Note
Students do not need to create an account or log in to use Navigate. They can start exploring transfer credits immediately. If they upload a transcript, they provide their email so you can send results — but there are no passwords or profiles to manage.
Key Features
Institution Search
Students search for their sending institution by name. Navigate matches against your configured list of partner and feeder schools and displays the available course equivalencies.
Course Equivalency Display
For each sending institution, Navigate shows a course-by-course breakdown with clear status labels. Here's what each status means:
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Direct Match | The sending course has an exact equivalent at your institution. For example, the student's ENG 101 counts as your ENGL 110. |
| Elective Credit | The course transfers as general elective credit toward the student's degree, even though there isn't a specific course-to-course match. |
| Requirement Match | The course fulfills a general academic requirement (such as a humanities or lab science requirement) without a direct course equivalent. |
| Non-Transferable | The course does not transfer. This may be due to institutional policy, course type, or other criteria your registrar has defined. |
Transcript Upload (Optional)
If enabled for your instance, students can upload an official or unofficial transcript directly through Navigate. The system processes it using EdVisorly's AI-powered transcript engine (EddyAI) and returns a personalized evaluation showing how the student's specific courses transfer to your institution.
Student Lead Capture
When students interact with Navigate, the system collects their email address and the institution they're coming from. This gives your admissions and enrollment teams a pipeline of high-intent transfer prospects — these are students actively researching how their credits transfer to your school.
How Navigate Connects to the EdVisorly Platform
Navigate doesn't exist in isolation — it's powered by the same equivalency data your team manages in EddyDB. Here's how the pieces fit together:
- EddyDB is where your registrar or transfer credit team manages course equivalencies, partner institutions, and transfer credit rules. This is the "source of truth" for your equivalency data.
- Navigate is the student-facing layer that reads from EddyDB and presents that data in a friendly, branded experience on your website.
- EddyAI is the transcript processing engine. When a student uploads a transcript through Navigate, EddyAI extracts the course data and matches it against your equivalency rules.
When your team updates an equivalency in EddyDB, that change is reflected in Navigate automatically. There's no separate system to update.
Tip
Because Navigate reads directly from EddyDB, keeping your equivalency data current in EddyDB means Navigate is always showing students accurate information — no extra steps required.
Security and Privacy
Navigate is built with student data privacy in mind. Here's what your team should know:
- All data is transmitted and stored using industry-standard encryption.
- Student-uploaded transcripts are securely stored with lifecycle policies that comply with FERPA retention requirements.
- Upload links and access tokens are time-limited and single-use.
- Student data collected through Navigate is only accessible to your institution — it is not shared with other partners or third parties.
- Navigate operates under your institution's privacy policy as displayed on your website.
